here are some new photos of the 2nd stage of demolition. Notice how they ripped out the joists in the ceiling of the master bedroom to create the cathedral ceilings. You can see the "A" frame of the house from the inside. Kinda cool. They are almost done clearing the place out. Then....we wait on the DC government for the permits to re-build. tick tock.

Demolition - First Photos
here are the first photos from demolition...about two days into the process. Man, these guys move fast!
new pictures are here.
I had them take out all of the interior walls so we can re-frame the layout of the house. The exterior walls are all brick, and some of it will remain exposed. Most of it will be drywalled. For the moment, all of it will be exposed so they can rip out all of the old-skool plaster that covered in the walls and ceilings.
SO: we're almost down to the studs. Its getting less safe to walk around in there b/c the floors are unstable.
The Master Plan:
Ground Floor:
-new wood flooring
-exposed brick
-add a 1/2 bathroom
-fresh new kitchen
-washer/dryer
Top Floor:
-wood flooring
-2 bedrooms
-2 bathrooms
-home office
-cathedral ceilings
The Roof:
-new roof [the current roof has a huge hole in it]
-a roof deck [fingers crossed on getting the permits before summer!]
Basement:
-wood flooring
-bathroom
-bedroom

Countdown to Demolition/The "Before" Pictures
So, we're supposed to start demolition in the next few days...here's a collection of the "before" pictures so you can get a look at the current condition of the house. The place has great bones, but obviously needs ALOT of TLC. Take a look....I'll list the Master Plan in the next post.

The First Chapter...
I'm Terrance, a 30-something Film Producer here in DC who just bought his first home. It's a lovely 1900's Victorian on the Unit Block of Q Street NW.
3 BR/1 BA and alot of charm.
It also needs EXTENSIVE work. Roof, plumbing, HVAC, floors, kitchen, bathrooms--the works.
It's rare that someone's first home would be a fixer-upper like this one. So I decided to start a blog to archive the process, and share updates with friends, family, and other interested parties. [perhaps someone out there JUST LIKE ME is doing this exact same thing right now in DC ?]
Plus: I'm a documentarian at heart. I like to take pictures. And video. and whatever else can capture the moment. So I'll be sure to post alot of media content.
I've never blogged before...actually made fun of those who did. but look: here I am GETTING MY BLOG ON.
Maybe I'll start a Twitter feed by time this is all over ;-)
